The English Education (7–12, B.S.) program culminates in 16 weeks of student teaching: 8 weeks in a middle school placement and 8 weeks in a high school placement. Prior to student teaching, teacher candidates must complete all required coursework and field hours and should schedule a meeting with their academic advisor. Please visit the Teacher Certification Office's website for more information about required seminars and how to apply for New York State teaching certification upon graduation.
The English education (7-12) postbaccalaureate teacher certification program leads to eligibility for New York State initial certification to teach English in grades 7-12. After successfully completing the teacher certification program and passing required New York State teacher certification exams, students are eligible to apply for New York State certification through the Teacher Certification Office.
M.S.Ed students will complete either 30 credits and three comprehensive exams OR 27 credits and a master's project. Details regarding the comprehensive exams and master's projects can be found here. Please contact Dr. James Cercone (cerconje@buffalostate.edu) with any additional questions.
