English Education Student Association Officers

2023-2024 Officers

Bailey Buckley

Graduate Assistant & EESA Officer

Bailey Buckley is a recent graduate of Buffalo State’s English Education 7-12 undergraduate program. She is currently earning her Master’s degree in English Education at Buffalo State. She works as the graduate assistant for the English Education department and as a substitute teacher in the Hamburg Central School District. Bailey also serves as an inaugural board member for the Center for English Teaching, the graduate student officer for the Western New York Network of English Teachers (WNYNET), and the graduate student coordinator for the English Education Student Association (EESA). Bailey has taken part in Buffalo State’s Professional Development Schools (PDS) program through her travel to The Center for Teaching and Learning in Edgecomb, Maine and her exchange program in Stuttgart, Germany. She hopes to continue traveling and exploring new ideas about education throughout her career. Her primary passions in the classroom are student-centered, inquiry-based learning and the incorporation of culturally sustaining pedagogy.

Sydney Mueller

EESA Officer

Sydney is an undergraduate transfer student completing her second semester in the English Education program. Her goal after graduation is to be certified to teach English as a second language. Last semester, she was fortunate to complete an internship with CTL in Maine, which led to the decision that she would like to teach in a middle school. Outside of her classes, she enjoys crocheting, baking fun desserts, painting, and reading.

Brayden Velia

EESA Officer

Brayden Velia is a junior English Education major here at Buffalo State. He is from Lockport, NY and attended Lockport High School, where he was a three-sport athlete in soccer, basketball and lacrosse. He has had great guidance and learned a lot from his high school English teachers, which has made him want to give back and be that teacher for the kids of the next generation. His love for helping kids excel stems from his four younger sisters and being able to help them with everything they need.

Joseph "Joe" Cannizzaro

EESA Officer

Joe is a 5th year Undergraduate here at Buffalo State. In his time here he has spent a lot of time investigating how best to incorporate philosophical thought into the classroom in order to teach the whole student. Notably, he has presented research on the incorporation of Zen Buddhist Philosophy within the classroom at the SUNY Oneonta Undergraduate Philosophy Conference. Outside of school he acts mostly as the very tired, but loving, uncle to his lovely nieces and he crochets many things, ranging from baby booties to throw blankets (and mostly trying to catch up on all of the reality shows he misses while running around all of WNY). His goal for next semester is to join the Post-Bacc program and keep pushing his way through his master's so he can get in the classroom!

Madison Lloyd

EESA Officer

Madison will receive her B.S. in Secondary English Education (7-12) in the Spring of 2026. She has a deep-rooted passion for writing and literature. Madison is eager to share her passion for English with students across Buffalo. In addition to her academic pursuits, Madison works as a Teacher's Aide in the Extended School Year Program through Erie1 Boces, as well as in the Child Watch department at the YMCA. She spends her free time with her friends and her dog Charlie, making art, and writing poetry.

Claire Miller

EESA Officer

Claire is a post-baccalaureate student at Buffalo State with a goal of teaching high school ELA. She earned her Undergraduate degree in English from Louisiana State University in her hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Claire had the opportunity to participate in an internship at the Center for Teaching and Learning in Edgecomb, Maine during Fall 2023 which influenced her goals for teaching the workshop method. She enjoys baking, exploring WNY, and trivia.

Kasey Malikowski

EESA Officer

Kasey Malikowski is a post-bacc student here in the English Ed Department. She has an undergraduate degree in digital media and communications from Villa Maria College, where she graduated from in 2023. She has been working in the education field for just over five years, and she hopes to make a life-long career of it teaching high school English. In her free time, she likes to read, play video games, practice the banjo, and spend time with her sister Sam and her two dogs Lulu and Sherlock.
